Before looking at the time line
Hello everyone this is my Batman time line. There are a few things i would like to go over before you take a look at the time line.First and foremost is that my time line is not perfect, It is about 90% accurate. There are some Batman stories i am not sure where they take place. For those Batman stores i have place a star next to them.I will at the bottom of the page explain why i place these stories where i did and why i not 100 % sure where they go. With that said rest assure that these are only a few stories and that my batman time line as stated before is about 90% accurate. The next thing i would like to point out is for the sake of this Batman time line i have separated the golden age and silver age comics from the bronze age and modern age material. I have given my reasons for doing this in the Golden/Silver Age section on the time line. Lastly i am going to separate Bruce Wayne Batman stories from Dick Grayson Batman stories. The reason for this is that i will be too hard to map out a complete batman time line with two Batmen. Maybe in the future it will be easier but for now i will keep them separated .
Golden and Silver Age Material
Golden age:
The Batman Chronicles Volumes 1-10
The Batman Archives Volumes 1-7
The Dark Knight Archives Volumes 1-5
The Dynamic Duo Archives Volumes 1-2
Note: Golden Age Batman material is not consider canon anymore for the current Batman continuity. It worth noting however that some old golden age stories are retold in the modern age to make them canon. These updated versions of the stories are considered part of the modern age and not the golden age.
Silver Age:
Showcase Presents: Batman Volumes 1-4
Note: Much of the silver age Batman stories are still consider canon, just out of date. The silver age stories that do count to Batman history usally takes place somewhere between his 3rd year of his career to some time before batman Tales of the demon. The reason i am not including The silver age Batman stories to my current time line seen below is that the stories are spreed out over batman career so it would be impossiable to determin where they fit.

Batman Monsters: In batman monsters it is stated that Batman has been fighting crime for about 18 months, James Gordan is a captain and these stories are said to take place after batman terror. The only problem is some of these facts conflict with each other. Batman Terror takes place in batman third year so if in Batman monsters he has only been fighting crime for 18 months then there is no way for the story to take place after Terror. The only logical way to reason this is that the first story is before batman terror and the last two are after it.
Batman Bat and the Beast: OK I am going to be completely honest with you on this.... i have no idea where this take place for sure in the batman time line. usually we can look at clues such as what Batman's costume look like, who is Robin, is James Gordan captain or commissioner, but every fact of this story conflicts with each other. If we look at the facts then one can reason this story taking place somewhere after Batman evolution and some time before officer down, or the story takes place after Face the Face. I said these places because Gordan is a commissioner and batman costume is the one he has worn since the end of no mans land. However one has to also remember that The bat and the Beast is part of the batman confidential series which are all stories taking place early in Batman career. My Guess is this, the artist didn't pay attention to continuity with batman costume and the writer didn't care enough to leave enough hints. With that said you probably better of just sticking this right next to king tuts tome because it doesn't conflict with anything there and its next to the previous batman confidential book.
Batman Anarky: This is simple, The first story takes place some time after A death in the family while the second takes place after Prodigal. You pick where you want to put it. I placed it after Prodigal because the majority of the book is the second story.
Batman Cacophony: Ok, at first i didn't even think this comic was canon but after reading it i noticed many references to in continuity stories like JLA Rock of ages. Now in theory there no way to know if this takes place before or after the infinite crisis, however a lot of people have said that everything Kevin Smith is doing with batman is After the infinite crisis, so i will just roll with it, makes my life easier. with that said we know these stories take place before Grant Morrison starts his run on batman because the joke is not in Arkham which he will be from Batman and Son until R.I.P. ends.Plus there's no bullet wound on jokes head that he will get during Batman and Son. With that said you can place this almost anywhere between Face the Face ad Batman and Son as long as it is not in between Detective and Death and the City. I place it before Gotham Underground because it doesn't conflict with anything else there.
Batman Widening gyre vol 1.:Boy is this a headache. Just like Kevin Smiths previous title it is hard to place Batman Widening gyre in the timeline and make it make sense. There is so many continuity screw ups here. Such as robin having the one year later costume but bludhaven not being destroyed. Or Aquaman in his classic costume and not having his water bear hand, or it being the original Aquaman rather than the second one. Theres more but its not worth listing them all. I chose to put this next to cacophony, why you ask? Well it seems to be a sequel to that story, as well as it is clearly a one year later story. To be honest though…. You can place it anywhere after cacophony and before batman and son. Until the second volume is released that’s the best I can do.
