Hello everyone and welcome to my web site. The purpose of this site is simple: to provide you with comic book time lines. The reason why I am doing this is that when collecting trades or graphic novels of a comic book, it can be hard to know where everything fits. I have been a fan of comics since before I could remember and I am one of those comic book fans who car a lot about continuity. I like knowing were everything fits in a comics history; it can be fun and stressful at the same time. My intentions is to relive some of that stress for other comic book fans who like to know the order that stories go in. However like with all things there are some stuff that needs to be pointed out to you guys before looking at the time lines.
What you Need to Know:
1. History Lesson
Comic books have goon through many different eras over the many years. Sometimes comic books and their history get rebooted when going into a new era, maybe some of the comics history changes while or elements remain the same, and sometimes everything counts in the comic books history. For DC here are some simple helpful tips:
Golden age (30s-50s): Earth 2
Silver age (mid 50s-70s): Earth 1
Bronze age (70s- 1985): Earth 1
Modern age (1985- current): New Earth
As you can see there is a different earth for each era. In 1985 DC had a huge event known as the Crisis on Infinite Earths which totally change dc continuity. Basically what happen is that DC made a single Earth for there continuity, New Earth. Now New Earth had most of the history of the silver and bronze age, all updated and with some things changed. In addition to that the golden age and its stores for the most part were add to New Earth as its 1940’s. Things were change to the golden age to make it fit such as no golden age Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman. Eventually Dc had a sequel to the Crisis on Infinite Earths known as the Infinite Crisis. What this event did is brought back the concept of multiple earths in the DC universe while at the same time keeping New Earths History mostly the same, there were a few changes but not much.
Why am I telling you this? Well the point I want to get across is that the DC universe is always changing and thus so dose its characters histories. These changes can be really big or very small. Things from the silver and bronze age can be canon for Batman but not for Wonder Woman. Some stories and be canon with the exceptions of one minor detail. Yes it can be confusing, however after reading enough you will eventually understand how it works.
So, if you see a silver or bronze age story in my batman timeline, don’t worry it is canon. Some aspects from it may not be, or some things need to be updated, however it happens in batman’s life thus its canon.
2. I Am Not Perfect
I make mistakes, I will admit that. See with my timelines I do as much research as I can to make sure that what I provide to you is a correct list. Sometimes I misplace some comics, or sometimes they are no longer consider canon, these things can happen. I like to think that I am 99 % accurate with my time lines; however there is always that 1% that happens and when it does, I will fix it.
3. Where does this go?
Sometimes with comics it can be tricky to know where things belong. When I am unsure with the placement of a comic I will let you know and give you the reasons I am unsure and why I place where I did. An example of this would be some of the stories in the batman confidential series. Many of these stories are said to take place early in batman career, however no hints are given by the author as to where. When this happens I try to take a guess based on who’s in the comic, references that are made and even what version of batman suit it used. Like I said, if I am ever unsure of a comic I will let you know.
4. When I get to it
The one major problem with doing comic book timelines is that you have to update them all the time. I try to stay on top of things and update my timelines whenever a new comic is out, however i am a busy person, thus if I don’t update the timeline right away, don’t worry, I will eventually get to it.
In addition to that I will only post up comics that I have read and know they belong in the timeline. I will also only do timelines of comics I read, so for example: if I don’t read Firestorm then I won’t do a timeline for him. I read a lot of comics so I am always adding new timelines.
With all that said I hope you all find my comic book time lines helpful. If you have and questions feel free to message me.
